Margaret Sraku-Lartey, PhD

CSIR-Forestry Research Institute of Ghana
Principal Librarian
Margaret is a chartered librarian with over 30 years’ experience in information management. She holds a PhD in Geography and Rural Development with specializations in Indigenous Knowledge and Climate Change Adaptation. Margaret has a passion for local Indigenous People and her interest is to unearth the knowledge that exists at the local indigenous level, and harness them within the information ecosystem to propel communities into higher realms of development. For this to happen, she believes that there has to be a convergence between academia, librarians, publishers, researchers and policy makers.
Margaret has been involved in several projects (on information management) that were funded by international agencies such as Elsevier Foundation, Department for International Development (DFID), International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD) and International Union for Forestry Research Organizations (IUFRO).
As a professional librarian her concern has always been with the lack of clear guidelines in the management of indigenous knowledge and she works towards the day when provision of standard guidelines would be developed for the management of such local knowledge.
She also has a BA (Social Sciences) and MA (Industrial Management) degrees. She currently lectures in Scientific Communication for graduate students at the CSIR College of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana.
She has over 50 journals articles, conference papers and technical reports to her name
